ARTICLES AND ESSAYS

It’s absolutely impossible to summarize this past summer in a brief news update, so we’ll try to fill you in on the highlights, and there were many, many highlights!

From May through July we hosted about 32 people, 20 of which participated in a 4-8 week internship program, the sixth such program that we have coordinated for CAM Mexico. I’m not going to even try to give everyone’s name, because I’d probably miss someone. Ministry included ESL classes, children’s clubs and sports ministry primarily, with the three ESL classes M-F reaching 100-140 people, and the basketball and soccer camps (2 each daily) drawing between 50-120 kids daily.

We saw significant fruit from this summer, including Alejandra, Paty, Bersa, Victor, Brenda, Alejandro, Neptalí, Neftali’s daughter, Margarita, Wendy and Daniel, who trusted Christ as their Savior. All of these new believers have been incorporated in one form or another in the local church. Our body is growing. Two of them trusted Christ during our most recent baptismal service July 17, when 8 new believers from the church were baptized. 22 people have been baptized in the last 2 years.

During the months of May, June and July, the church dedicated one Saturday a month to engage in a community clean-up program, donning rubber gloves and garbage bags and picking up all manner (believe me when I say “all manner”) of trash from the streets surrounding the
church.

The church has bought a small house and has modified it to make it more suitable for church services. Much progress has been made in remodeling the church. Our biggest area, a space of about 385 square feet, now has finished walls and a tile floor, with electrical wiring to permit an overhead video projector. Although space is extremely limited, we at least are able to meet in one place. The church also just recently bought a 5x10 meter tent/canopy structure, for special events.

Alberto, who trusted Christ last summer, began Bible studies at Puebla Bible Seminary August 20th. Alberto is practically our eldest son—we have adopted each other, and for the past year he has visited us every single evening. We are excited for this new opportunity for him. This past Sunday we took him back to school, along with a coffee maker and some school supplies. Turns out others wanted to go too…we had a car full! His ministry assignment is to work with our church here during the coming year. If you would like to help Alberto out financially, let us know. We’ll tell you how. Melissa, a CAM MK from Costa Rica, stayed with Alejandra, 15, this past summer. Through Melissa’s testimony, Alejandra came to know the Lord! It’s exciting to see how God is working in her life. Melissa has found a new, creative way to do long-distance discipleship from her dorm room at Texas A&M (whoop!)…they communicate almost daily through Instant Messaging and email!
