ARTICLES AND ESSAYS
Spain – the land of bullfighting, flamenco, and rain falling mainly on the plain.
But, Spain – missions gateway, really?
The need for the Gospel in Spain remains great – evangelical presence is still only around 3 believers for every 1000 Spaniards. But Spain is now also a great launching pad for missions to areas of even greater need such as Asia Minor and North Africa.
Half of Spain itself is inside the 10/40 window. Morocco is only a short boat ride from Spain, and Madrid is just over 2000 miles (less than the distance from New York to L.A.) from places like Lebanon and Jordan in the Middle East. In addition to this, Spain is a port of entry into Europe for countless immigrants from North Africa, many of whom are Muslim, so there is a considerable Muslim population even inside Spain.
In Southern Spain, CAM Missionaries John and Jan Lohrenz will soon be working alongside Guatemalan missionaries Joel and Vivian Lara to plant churches among Spaniards and to train Latin workers and others involved in Muslim outreach.
While CAM missionaries continue the ministry in urban areas of Spain as they have been doing for the past thirty years, they have also been given an incredible opportunity to impact other areas of the world as we partner with Spanish speakers to make disciples globally. Please pray for the ministry the 15 CAM missionaries currently serving in Spain as well as the work of MPI.
