There are many established Bible churches in the area of Amealco, Mexico, but until this time, they had no access to an adequate gathering-place. CAM missionaries Paul and Jenny Johnson recognized the need and began promoting a vision for a local facility that churches could use for evangelism, discipleship, and training people to grow into Christ's likeness. Later in the year, a memorial fund was established in honor of Mary Katherine Johnson, Paul’s mother.
With funds available and a vision in place, two couples committed to spearhead the development of the project. Bob and Pattie Davis accepted the role of planning and development, while Jody and Abril Hower worked with the Mexican churches to bring events and work teams.
The combined efforts of 250 volunteers and financial supporters over the course of five years, including a specialized team from Colorado Springs, Engineering Ministries International, contributed significantly to the planning, construction, and outreach efforts.
The official dedication ceremony for Koinonia Camp and Conference Center was held in November of 2004. Since that time, the camp has witnessed many Mexican youth believing in Christ and committing their lives to ministry. Even visiting short-term teams have commented on how their experience in Mexico has changed their lives and perspectives on missions.
If you would like to make an impact through a Christian camp experience, come visit Mexico during the summer or make a donation to the Koinonia Camp and Conference Center. We are looking for partners, like you, who would like to use their unique skills and abilities to make a difference.
